Kid Infinity's Myspace Page
Kid Infinity strikes me as the Asher Roth 2.0. He's got a unique voice, and a hip style. While in the past, this "white-boy hip hop" might have been something to just shrug at, something about today's music scene tells me he could be the next big thing.
As for ranking him on a scale from 1-10, i'd give him a 6.5-7 overall. He's more of a rapper than a singer. His look I would give an 8-8.5. He is hip and pretty attractive.
In a way, his style comes in and takes over for where Lady Gaga's music stops. He is, perhaps, one step further into the underground, but with the emergence of acts like Kid Cudi and, again, Asher Roth, I see him as somebody who will end up with a deal.
He has plenty of underground hype. I think that the production of his songs could use a little polishing, but I think there is something interesting and solid to start off with.
As to whether or not he has the kind of appeal that is going to sell massive amounts of records, I am not extremely hopeful that he would, but I also wouldn't count him out.
On that note, Asher Roth, whose album has been out since April 20, has sold around 150,000.
Keep in mind this note from the album's Wikipedia entry:
Universal Records underestimated the initial sales of the album and only shipped about 100,000 retail copies of the album for the first week, and that it didn't reach as many stores as initially planned, according to Roth. Soundscan shows that Asher Roth sold 146,958 copies in 7 weeks
The question is: is this an emerging market or the peak of a market that has already emerged, so to speak?
