ATTN MAJOR LABELS: Do Not Listen To Perez Hilton

The fact of the matter is that Perez Hilton know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ABOUT THE MUSIC INDUSTRY!!

If you read Perez Hilton on a somewhat consistent basis (I am ashamed, yes) then you realize that everything he says is almost always without merit. He listens to his gut on every post without knowing much about any given topic. He likes to think of himself as a genius, as someone who sees truths about pop culture that no one else sees, but the truth is he is sort of an idiot. (Not completely so, but enough to call him one.)

One example I can think of off hand is his recent proclamation of Mariah Carey's latest single "Obsessed" as a failure. This was after it "debuted at a disappointing #11." Now, anybody who knows anything about the Billboard Hot 100 knows that to debut at #11 is an overwhelming success. It suggests a large fan base, high first week sales/downloads, and good airplay. I don't have to explain this to any of you.

Perez also said that it would "likely not crack the top 10 at all." Well, it has. It's been in the top 10 for a few weeks now.

Another example, which also finds Ryan Seacrest at fault, is his prediction that Leona Lewis' new single "Happy" would go to number 1. Now, it's only been on the charts for two weeks, so it is not easy to tell, but happy, which debuted at around 50 on the hot 100, has now fallen to the 80s. Compare that data to Carey's data... STFU Perez Hilton. You don't know shit about music.

He banks off of Eric Hutchinson (sp?), a still relatively unknown act that he brandished (and yes, he brandished) in front of the world. He has taken credit for all of Hutchinson's success and Hutchinson has yet to debut in the top 100 of the Billboard 200. I'm not sure it's even been in the top 200.

Anyway, I just want to say that Perez, as popular as his site is, knows ZERO about the music industry, and he has QUESTIONABLE taste at best.

We'll all wait and see how the flagship artist for his new label, Slimmy, fares in the industry.

I would put my money on FAIL!

Marie Digby - A Youtube Sensation Indeed

Very talented girl.

Her debut album Unfold sold an unimpressive 18,000 units in it's debut week. That's not terrible, in the event that promotions for the album stayed in the low five figures, and no one was hoping to get rich or anything.

Here's the thing, Marie is a Youtube starlet. She has almost 200,000 subscribers to her channel, and therefore, has value. She has a venue for advertisers, and she can pull a hundreds of thousands of views on any given video.

Just don't confuse her with Rihanna or anything. She's not going to take the Billboard 200 by storm.

The new emerging music industry needs acts like Marie, and she is not to be overlooked; however, those A&R people who keep looking to her for a Hot 100 hit need to look elsewhere.

By the way, I know of a certain Youtube star who has over 1.3 million subscribers, and is said to be pulling in $40,000 a month for their channel.

Take that for what it's worth. =)

Does This Girl Have A Deal Yet?

Watch it:

Okay, this girl is not only objectively talented, but she sounds exactly like Regina Spektor, Ingrid Michaelson, Feist (???), and a slew of other contemporary female acts. I'd be willing to bet, though she has a modest 5,000 subscribers to her youtube channel (although an impressive 800,000+ views of the above video) that she has a healthy number of record labels looking into her.

She must be good for at least some licensing deals if not a moderate hit single.

There can be no doubt that her style is a bit trite and has not proven to cross over into massive mainstream success, but it is certainly worth a low six-figure investment.

Get her song on a commercial for a digital camera, then some publicity shots, and then get that girl on a college tour.

Make sure you check your numbers before spending a dime.

Here's another:

Come on! She's great.

Combine the previous 2 posts

And maybe you have a hit song.

Amerie singing "Maybe, Possibly"????

Maybe, Possibly... This Could Be A Hit Song

It's the melody, more than the lyrics (though the lyrics suffice) that really makes this a potential winner in mainstream music.

This song, at the very least, would make a hell of a single for a Disney Channel Original Movie.

In fact, Disney should sign these girls. That is no joke. They have a look that would appeal to the average girl, and they have talent.

Aly and AJ anyone?

This is a new age for music and these girls have proven successful on the YouTube front, so I doubt that there are many A&R guys who are unaware of the duo.

Whose going to make a move?

Poor Amerie

Go listen to the song:

It's Sept 28th (though it's 1:18 in the morning) and this video has 20,000 views.

It had Perez Hilton exposure.

This is a failure. Amerie's publicists should be fired. She ought to have more views than 20,000 in 3 days. DISMAL!

It's not that it's a bad song, but there is no discernible parts other than that chorus, whose melody is almost impossible to sing along with.

This is a waste of a single from Amerie.

"1 Thing" was Amerie's peak single

This is what she needs to be doing. Showing off her voice in an intensely enjoyable rhythm, not getting sucked into an overproduced NON-song like "Heard Em All."

Also, just as "1 Thing" was on the Hitch soundtrack, when you have an artist with a questionable amount of noteriety, such as Amerie, put her on a freaking soundtrack or something.

In any case, non-songs like Heard Em All have their place, but it is not within mainstream pop music.

Prove me wrong billboard, prove me wrong.

Hillary Johnson

Hillary's Myspace page

This girl can sing. And that being far from her only talent. You must check out "Kaleidoscope" on this girls myspace. That song has a vibe that is too new and hip to ignore. It's got a spunk that we have not seen in quite some time.

I think this track needs to be heard and perhaps passed along to a Duffy type.

Check out this video of Hillary playing a song "My Silence"

While she may not rank a 10 in the looks department, she could be developed. She is far too talented to overlook. She's got a beautiful voice and is a beautiful, and very talented, piano player.

She has a Lady Gaga edge to her voice.
